EP80 - Paddle (SUP), Participating in the World Cup c/ Tomás Lacerda
In the latest episode of the podcast Direta Sem Café, we give voice to a story of resilience and determination: Tomás Lacerda, a high-performance athlete and student at Lusófona University, was the first to complete the crossing between Porto Santo and Madeira on a stand-up paddleboard — an achievement that took 11 hours and 46 minutes to accomplish.
Throughout the conversation, Tomás shares the behind-the-scenes of this adventure, from physical and mental preparation to the most demanding moments of the crossing. Motivated by the memory of his father, who closely supported his sports career, the athlete talks about how he overcame fatigue, headwinds, and the doubts that arose near the finish line.
National SUP Champion in 2021 and 2023, and a representative of Lusófona University at the World Championship in France, Tomás also reflects on the importance of his studies in Sports, highlighting how the knowledge gained in areas such as nutrition and physiology already impacts his training and technical decisions.
With his eyes set on the future, he reveals his ambition to continue competing at the highest level and, eventually, to represent Portugal at the Olympic Games. At the same time, he shows interest in investing in teaching, sports management, and his own personal projects.
At the end of the episode, he leaves an inspiring message for all student-athletes striving to balance sports and academic life: the key is to stay focused, seek support, and never forget the importance of mental well-being.
