Bachelor Communication Science

The degree in Communication Sciences aims to provide training in the main areas existing in thge group of Communication Sciences. The course comprising two specialization variants, which constitute alternative to obtain the diploma: Specialization in Organizational Communication and Studies in Journalism. The degree offers a strong practical component oriented by the acquisition of specific skills, seeking to streamline the response to an increasingly competitive and demanding social and business environment. This course is a heritage of Communication and Cultural Sciences (a course with over 25 years of student training) and starts operating in the academic year 2021-2022, remaining , for 2nd and 3rd year students, the previous study plan.

This study cycle accepts candidates who submit their application via the institutional entry admission and have obtained a positive score on one of the following sets:



Candidates may also apply via the regimes of institution/programme transfer or via Special Application, in accordance with the legal regulations in force (holders of higher education degree, holders of a Technological Specialization Course, holders of Professional Higher Technician Course or Over 23 years of Age). Candidates who meet the requirements defined in the International Student Statute can also apply.

Students who have completed the 12th year and are interested in continuing their studies at university and in the field of communication sciences. Professionals who meet the conditions for entry into higher education and who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in the area. Students who have chosen to take courses at level 4 or 5 and intend to continue their studies in this degree.

Specific functions of communication and image direction. Journalism and Reporting. Marketing and management activities. Activity in advertising agencies and public relations offices. Integration in communication departments in public administration and private organizations. Press officer roles. Communication adviser. News reporter. Journalist for the written press, radio, television and digital. Functions of cultural programming and artistic direction in festivals, biennials, local authorities, foundations, associations and cultural companies. Curatorship functions (design and organization of art exhibitions). Journalism and cultural criticism functions in general and specialized media, among others.

The Licentiate degree in Communication Science and Culture provides adequate training for further studies in the 2nd cycle, in the areas of Communication Sciences and Media art.

During the academic year, there are workshops and conferences with researchers and professionals that bring different points of view to the study cycle, which are important for the identification and communication of objects and contents.

The study cycle have sound and image studios; rooms equipped with audiovisual devices and a warehouse with equipment that can be requested by students for the creation and development of academic work.

Students can participate in many projects, national and international, under development at CICANT (research center), allowing contact with the research processes and methodologies.

The study cycle has an important theoretical-practical aspect for the development of individual skills that allow the student to understand contemporary society, the company and the creation and dissemination of information. The degree offers a strong academic component and oriented towards the acquisition of specific skills, seeking to streamline the response to an increasingly competitive and demanding social environment in terms of professional and research opportunities. This cycle of studies provides, by branch of specialization, important resources for the development of sectorial analysis and crossover with other knowledge.
