    As part of the ERASMUS Project “Ugly” fruits and veggies... NOT!, we would like to share with everyone an example that we consider positive. At the Lusófona University Campus in Lisbon, we encourage consumers to get closer to agricultural producers. Every week we have the opportunity to buy fruit and vegetables directly from the producer, in prepared baskets that offer a varied range of products, including fruit and vegetables classified as “ugly”.

    On May 27, Tiago Monteiro, a Biotechnology student at Lusófona University and a board member of the Eco-Schools Engineering School, took part in one of the largest underwater clean-up campaigns ever undertaken. The event, which was attended by 842 divers, set a new record by collecting around 3 tonnes of marine debris in just 24 hours. Items removed included ropes, plastic and glass bottles, and disposable masks.

    On June 20, students from the Eco-Council of the Lusófona University, accompanied by Professor Anabela Cruces, took part in a technical outing to the old Lousal mine. During the visit, the students explored the historic mine facilities and the science center created on site. The activity highlighted the importance of rehabilitating mining areas and managing water quality. The students collected water and sediment samples, which will be analyzed in Ecotoxicology and Water Quality classes, reinforcing the importance of studying natural resource management and environmental preservation.
